The Best and Worse ships of Stranger Things S4

Even if there are no canon ships in a tv show, you are bound to have a ship war. As a show with multiple ships, and none of them being confirmed as canon, Stranger Things is no exception. Here are some of them here:

  • Jonathan + Nancy

  • Steve + Nancy

  • Robin + Nancy

  • Will + Mike

  • Mike + Eleven

  • Lucas + Max

  • Hopper + Joyce

As someone who watched the show and has kept up to date since it came out, I can confidently say that I hate some of these relationships. So, I thought I'd rank them. So, here are the best and worse ships, in order, in my opinion.

  1. Hopper and Joyce. This is one of the few ships that felt like they liked each other and work super well together. Plus, they're both adults who have lost someone throughout the show and still found a way to each other despite their clashing personalities.

And that's it. Seriously, I can't rank the other ones because it's either obvious it's not happening or they feel way too forced. I will say, I don't like Eleven and Mike's relationship because it doesn't feel like a relationship. It doesn't feel like they know each other as much as they like each just because. In this newest season, Mike says he loves Eleven, but like, why? Because she has superpowers. That's the only reason he liked her in the first place and "loves" her. The fact that that was the only reasoning he could give as to why he loved Eleven shows how empty their relationship is.

Similarly, there's Will and Mike. It makes more sense for them since the show established that they're childhood friends. Will being gay also makes sense because they introduced season three with all his friends ditching him for their girlfriends. Will was always the closest to Mike out of everyone. However, this season instead of letting Will come out to anyone he just implied it to love-struck Mike, who's too wrapped up in Eleven to even have his character in the show. At this point, if Will had come out to Mike, he probably would have brushed it off and started talking about El because that's literally all he cares about.

Then there's Robin and Nancy, which just isn't going to happen because Robin already has a crush and Nancy has shown no interest in Robin, besides implying she was a little jealous of her relationship with Steve.

That leads to the main point of all this, the Nancy ships. This recent season obviously set up not only Steve's redemption in Nancy's eyes but Jonathan and Nancy's break-up. All of a sudden, the Duffer Brothers made Jonathan a pothead on top of him already being long-distance from Nancy. And now, Nancy considering Steve all over again when she never displayed interest after their season one fallout.

Don't get me wrong, I love Steve, especially when he interacts with Dustin. Dustin and Steve are basically brothers, which helps since the main group barely hangs out anymore. Steve has more than made up for all the bull he pulled in season one, but then again everyone knew and saw that at the end of the season. But now that Jonathan is in another state, Nancy is considering him. If the show let her and Jonathan just communicate and took the weed away from Jonathan, then maybe they could actually have a chance of working out. Instead, they just act as if everything is fine when they both have their doubts.

Finally, there's Lucas and Max. They were the most interesting relationship since Max started as more of a mean girl and became part of the group at the end. I like how they made it so her initial behavior was reflective of her home life rather than her personality. However, their paths were always divulging until the end of every season and now it doesn't seem like Max is coming back anytime soon.

So if you haven't been paying attention, essentially the only relationships that matter and are going to be upheld are Joyce and Hopper's and Eleven and Max's. The others feel a lot less likely or interchangeable. The one gripe I have is that Dustin's relationship has essentially been shoved to the side since his girlfriend can no longer contact him and near the end of the season he seemed more alone than usual.

I know the focus of the show isn't the relationships, but it should. The only reason some of these people are still alive in the show is because of their positive relationships with others. El won this season because of Max's speech and confession. He only made that speech and confession because of Will. Max did her best to survive because of her friends, mainly Lucas. Lucas won his fist fight because he wanted to save Max, and so on. These relationships matter in a show like this. For example, if Nancy has to choose between saving Jonathan and Steve, who would she choose? Depending on the season, the answer's going to change, and there's no doubt it will change again in this final season.

Let me know what your favorite ships are since I wasn't even aware of the Robin and Nancy ship until I did a little research.
